It takes some brute force work with a OSX system install disk, force booting to the CD or DVD and getting back into Sys Prefs to redirect to OSX. I can use the Startup Disk function in System Prefs to force a boot to WinXP, but that is permanent. Soooo, I plunked down the money to upgrade to OSX 10.5 (now at 10.5.2), did so, but the Option key on the Al board still won't bring up the op system choice screen. Switching back to the old plastic board, Option key does that job fine. Once done with all that, the Option key on the Al board, held down during startup, no longer diverts to the option of choosing which op system to boot. Per the keyboard instructions I did go to the Apple website, downloaded and installed the Apple Keyboard Software. The original white and clear plastic keyboard was getting a bad case of "sticky keys" so I bought a new Aluminum keyboard. I had Boot Camp beta installed on my iMac running OSX 10.4.11 and Win XP.
